Standing in my backyard looking east. Noticed bright glowing orange/red balls of light rising up into the sky, one at a time and in clusters. The balls appeared coordinated with some moving toward others to form triangles. Appeared these were originating from near or over lake michigan, approx 3 miles away. I ran inside to get my mother, she also witnessed the rising glowing lights. The lights floated up towards the north/northwest sky and disappeared. Total number of lights I saw was approx 30 or more. Duration was approx 20-25 mins. A commercial airplane departing o'hare heading northeast was about a mile south of my location facing the glowing balls at the time of my witnessing the event. It looked as if they were glowing fire embers rising off the lake.
