Last September was the 50th anniversary of the most famous alien abduction and some say the first real recorded abduction. (There being a case in the 1950s known as the Reed Family abductions). The 1961 abduction was of an interracial married couple Betty and Barney Hill. The reason I mention that they were interracial, Barney being Black and Betty being white is that some people belive this is very important. Interracial marriage in the 1960s was not the norm and some believe that stress from racism aimed at the couple may be responsible for this story.
However, many true Ufologists dismiss this idea. Betty and Barney Hill were returning from a vacation in Canada on Sept. 19, 1961. While they were driving through the state of New Hampshire not far from the city of Lancaster Barney noticed something moving erratically in the sky.
They watched for a while still driving but then decided to stop the car near Indian Head and take a better look. Barney had a closer look with a pair of binoculars and he saw multi-coloured lights, and rows of windows on a flat-shaped object, which now seemed to be moving toward him.
The object moved closer towards them and when it reached within a hundred feet of him, Barney could see occupants inside. Feeling frightened, he ran back to the car where Betty waited. They both jumped into the car and drove off at speed.
Once back on the road they were unable to see the object anymore, however they did hear a very unusual beeping sound. A minute or two later they then heard the beeping a second time, this time they suddenly realised they were in Ashla, thirty-five miles farther down the road.
They arrived home in Portsmouth confused and puzzled as to why Betty's dress had stains and tear marks, Barney's shoes had scruffs and the car had unusual shiny spots on it. They realised that their watches were not working and they had 'lost' about two hours of time. They called family, the following day they reported the incident to the Pease Air Force base Portsmouth.

In 1964, Barney and Betty underwent a series of taped hypnosis sessions, these sessions described how they had been abducted and physically examined by "men" who did not appear to be human. They were described as big bald headed grey beings with big slanted eyes.
"They dragged me, kicking and screaming," Betty told The Associated Press in a 1986 interview.
Their story which was known only by a select few including close friends, family and investigators was leaked to the Boston Traveler which published the story. It went on to become a best selling book for John Fuller in 1966 called "The Interrupted Journey: The lost hours Aboard A Flying Saucer". There was also a 1975 television series called " The UFO Incident" starring James Earl Jones and Estelle Parsons. The rest is history as they say. The Hill's experience is the first in a long line of Alien Abduction Stories.
