A police helicopter crew gave chase to a UFO after it almost collided with their aircraft near a military base.

The pilot was forced to bank sharply to avoid being hit by the mystery aircraft as the helicopter was returning to the Ministry of Defence base of St Athan, near Cardiff.

The three crew, who described the UFO as 'flying saucer-shaped', then gave chase, getting as far as the North Devon coast before they ran low on fuel, it was reported.

The police aircraft was hovering at 500ft and waiting clearance to land on June 7, when those onboard spotted the other craft hurtling towards them from below.

A spokesman for South Wales Police said: "We can confirm the Air Support Unit sighted an unusual aircraft. This was reported to the relevant authorities for their investigation."

It was reported that the aircraft closed in at great speed, aiming straight for the helicopter which swerved sharply.

"They are convinced it was a UFO. It sounds far-fetched, but they know what they saw."

The helicopter crew are said to have crossed the Bristol channel in pursuit of the UFO, but lost sight of it and had to turn back due to a fuel shortage.

The sighting comes weeks after the most comprehensive Government files on UFO activity are opened to the public for the first time today and they disclose that even air traffic controllers and police officers have seen mysterious craft in the skies over Britain.

The sightings range from incredible tales of little green men visiting the Wirral to corroborated accounts from policemen and pilots of Unidentified Flying Objects hovering above towns and cities.

AUGUST 07, 2013 - UNITED KINGDOM - Strange lights hovering over the skies of Dorset, south-west England, may be the latest evidence supporting the theory about the existence of alien life in the universe. A report in Dorset Echo newspaper suggests, the lights were spotted by a reader who sent pictures to the publication. According to Mark Lichtensteiger, he spotted the lights from a beauty spot overlooking Zig Zag Hill. He also said that he was not the only one who saw the unusual sight and that others walking around the area too witnessed the lights. "At first I thought it was some sort of helicopter display or formation but when the lights disappeared there was absolutely nothing there. They came back on and then kept flashing on and off, all at different times. There must have been five or six lights, which were all stationary in the sky", Lichtensteiger told the Dorset Echo. Lichtensteiger also added that neither he, nor anyone he had spoken to could explain the unusual phenomenon.However, some of the readers have dismissed the sighting as Chinese Lanterns with one of them claiming to have witnessed something similar in the past. "I've seen this before - it's paragliders circling with their wings catching the sunlight then as they change angle looking as if they've disappeared - nothing alien or paranormal - just the human brain's ability to fool itself into seeing what it wants to see, or what it's told to see", one of the readers commented. This was just one of the many UFO sightings reported in UK recently. Last month, a woman from Hull photographed what she believed was a UFO while on the terrace of her home on Southcoates Lane. Jean Dearing saw lights hovering in the sky and quickly grabbed her camera to take pictures of the unusual sight. "I can only say what I saw. I've always wanted to see a UFO and now I have," she said, adding, "It was very, very vivid." - IBT.

I am very wary of self-styled UFO Police and invite all (except uber psycho skeptoids) to play. Demands from some researchers that certain subjects or approaches within UFOlogy be rejected for whatever reason should be soundly mocked and utterly ignored. But there is something to be said for being coherent (as I'll comment later regarding Paola Harris) or being cavelair with information. We've been seeing a lot of this these days, from David Jacobs, Budd Hopkins, and many more before them, and we'll of course see many more after this.

I wasn't at this conference and can't comment directly. I've stood up for LMH in the past and she does deserve acknowledgement for her contributions. I do think she has her own view of what "all this" is, (most of us have our own views of what "all this" is) and that affects her spin on the stories she brings us. She's not the only researcher to do so.

By the way, if you visit Colin Andrew's site, and can find some way of contributing to his efforts, I am sure he will appreciate it.

"Hi Chris,I am sending you this photo that I took on my iPod recently. The story is that my partner and I along with 2 girlfriends went for a drive and a picnic in a lovely part of the world called the promised land in Gleniffer New Australia.

On the way I noticed an airplane laying chem- trails and was quite upset as it had been happening frequently here on lovely sunny clear sky days. I started filming and taking photos.

It was not until I returned home and looked at my photos that I saw this large object in my photo plus other smaller objects In the photo.

I got the impression that I was not the only one annoyed at the Chemtrails!

Nasa's Kepler telescope scans the skies for 'habitable worlds' - but an American chemist has suggested the whole project might be a terrible idea.

Ronald Breslow suggests that life-forms based on slightly different amino acids and sugars could take the form of huge, ferocious dinosaurs that have evolved to have human-like intelligence and technologies.

'We would be better off not meeting them,' says Breslow, who claims that it was a stroke of luck that an asteroid wiped out dinosaurs on earth, leaving the field clear for mammals such as humans.

On other worlds, dinosaurs could have evolved into huge, intelligent warriors armed with hi-tech weaponry - but without losing their hunger for fresh meat.

'Of course,' Breslow says, 'Showing that it could have happened this way is not the same as showing that it did. An implication from this work is that elsewhere in the universe there could be life forms based on D-amino acids and L-sugars.

'Such life forms could well be advanced versions of dinosaurs, if mammals did not have the good fortune to have the dinosaurs wiped out by an asteroidal collision, as on Earth.

'We would be better off not meeting them.'

In the report, noted scientist Ronald Breslow, Ph.D., discusses the century-old mystery of why the building blocks of terrestrial amino acids (which make up proteins), sugars, and the genetic materials DNA and RNA exist mainly in one orientation or shape.

There are two possible orientations, left and right, which mirror each other in the same way as hands.

In order for life to arise, proteins, for instance, must contain only one chiral form of amino acids, left or right.

'Such life forms could well be advanced versions of dinosaurs, if mammals did not have the good fortune to have the dinosaurs wiped out by an asteroidal collision, as on Earth,' says Breslow

With the exception of a few bacteria, amino acids in all life on Earth have the left-handed orientation.

Most sugars have a right-handed orientation. How did that so-called homochirality, the predominance of one chiral form, happen?

Breslow describes evidence supporting the idea that the unusual amino acids carried to a lifeless Earth by meteorites about 4 billion years ago set the pattern for normal amino acids with the L-geometry, the kind in terrestial proteins, and how those could lead to D-sugars of the kind in DNA.

Amateur stargazers have discovered an intriguing object jutting out from the surface of Mars. The seemingly perfectly rectangular, upright structure, found in NASA images of the Red Planet, bears a striking resemblance to the monoliths planted on Earth and the moon by aliens in the classic sci-fi film "2001: A Space Odyssey."The object in question was first spotted several years ago after being photographed by the HiRISE camera onboard the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, a NASA space probe; every so often, it garners renewed interest on the Internet. But is it unnatural - a beacon erected by aliens for mysterious reasons, and even more mysteriously paralleled in the imaginations of Stanley Kubrick and Arthur C. Clarke, creators of "2001"? Or is this rock the work of nature? [Photo ]According to Jonathon Hill, a research technician and mission planner at the Mars Space Flight Facility at Arizona State University, who processes many of the images taken during NASA's Mars missions, the object in question is no more than a roughly rectangular boulder. The HiRISE camera that photographed it has a resolution of approximately 1 foot (30 centimeters) per pixel - impressive considering the 180-mile (300-kilometer) altitude from which it photographs the Martian surface, but not quite sharp enough to capture the cragginess of a mid-size boulder. "When your resolution is too low to fully resolve an object, it tends to look rectangular because the pixels in the image are squares. Any curve will look like a series of straight lines if you reduce your resolution enough," Hill told Life's Little Mysteries.The location of the boulder at the bottom of a cliff near many other boulders suggests it broke off the cliff and tumbled to its current spot sometime in the distant past, Hill said. Such a perilous location is itself an argument against deliberate placement by aliens: "If I was going to build a monolith somewhere, that's the last place I would put it!" he said. "The debris falling from the cliff would cover it up pretty quickly, on geologic timescales." Photographed when the sun was near the horizon, the boulder casts an especially long shadow. The ufologists aren't necessarily wrong in calling it a monolith - the word simply translates from Latin as "one stone." But this monolith isn't the masonry of Martians.

They Will Not Leave Me Alone

I took the weekend off from blogging, because I just wanted to spend a couple days having fun with my wife and daughter and not thinking about UFOs. This was the weekend of a city-wide rummage sale, so my wife and I took off on our bikes Saturday afternoon to see if we could find any buried treasure...

We came up empty-handed, but for one small item. Because I am apparently not allowed to take a weekend off, I found an old paperback about UFOs, circa 1977, on sale for only 25 cents. What could I do? I borrowed a dollar from my wife and bought it.

Over the remainder of the weekend I read the first couple chapters of the book, and I'm not going to say much about it because it's pretty badly written and hard to read. The author is not a writer, but is someone who had done "serious UFO research" for many years leading up to writing this book, and so had a certain air of "insider" authority. The author's message, hammered home over and over again, was that we are on the verge of experiencing "The Big One." All evidence points to an imminent revelation, the author insisted: the Air Force is going to be forced to admit to everything it knows, and we will all soon know The Truth.

That was written in 1977. Fast-forward to 2011: thirty-four years later, the UFO experts are still saying the same thing.

I may be new to this game, but even I can see that when you lock yourself into a proposition that has been proven to be untrue for 34 years and counting, you may need a weekend retreat of your own.

First, I have a message to the Air Force: good job, Air Force! You have kept our country safe from objects that can outrun and outmaneuver every new generation of fighter plane that you can develop. At the same time, you have been able to seize alien spacecraft and shrunken little green man corpses by the dozens and keep them locked away in secret vaults and hangars for decades.
